Well, here’s a little video I made of a few thrifting tips. It was really fun to make, but needless to say, my editing skills are sub-par. I hope to make more videos in the future and I promise they will get better! I’m still learning and experimenting with the video software on my Macbook since I have never used it in the four years I’ve had the damn thing. Plus, I just wanted to put it up as soon as possible, so I left in all the stupid parts of me laughing, almost getting run over, the alarm going off at the VC, cars passing by, a man talking loudly over me, the annoying wind; you know, all the funny shit.

I’d like to thank my cameraman (and owner of the camera) Daniel Telles and my director Nic Morales. You guys are my idols! Oh, and expect to see Daniel in some upcoming posts. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s helping me with some ideas in the near future.

A recap of the tips I mentioned in the video:

  1. Do not be afraid to buy used.
  2. Dress comfortably so you can try on clothes.
  3. Bring a tape measure if you don’t want to try on clothes.
  4. Search for thrift stores in your town on thriftshopper
  5. Call up your local thrift store and ask about sale days.
  6. Be patient and willing to look around for a while.
  7. Look in the men’s and children’s sections.
  8. Come with friends so you can get a second opinion.
  9. Try to find items unique to your style.
  10. Think about how you will wear items before you buy them.
  11. Bring cash.

And actually, this video is the jump-off point for a little project I’m working on with fellow bloggers and thrift spirit sisters, Amelia of Good Stuff Only and Stina of No Futvre.

More tips Stina added:

  • Try and devote a day going to your local charity shop, scouring every single item. It might take a few hours, but if you can, then make it out to that store a few times a week (or even once a week) and you won’t have to do that because you’ll remember what you’ve already seen and can spot out a new item.
  • If you’re ever 50/50 on a certain item, just throw it in your cart because if you put it back on the rack, someone else might take it and it’s gone forever.

I’m seriously so excited about our fun little project. As soon as all the details are worked out, the three of us will be posting conjunctively. But do not fret my dears, all will be revealed this week. Be sure to check back on our respective blogs within the next few days!
